اچھی بھلی اس شہر میں عزت ہے تمہاری
Bola bhi tha main ne ke mere sath na baitho
Achhi bhali is shehr mein izzat hai tumhari
I had told you not to sit beside me.
You already have a good reputation in this city.
رکھے ہوئے ہوتے ہیں کئی پردے خدا نے
مشکوک مجھے یوں بھی شرافت ہے تمہاری
Rakhay huay hotay hain kayi parday Khuda ne
Mashkook mujhe youn bhi sharafat hai tumhari
God keeps many veils over the truth.

یہ غزل گہری شاعری کی ایک خوبصورت مثال ہے، جہاں شاعر ہر بات کو اشاروں میں کہتا ہے اور اصل کہانی قاری کے تخیل پر چھوڑ دیتا ہے۔ پہلے شعر میں محبت اتنی گہری دکھائی گئی ہے کہ انسان کو اس وقت اپنے محبوب کی اتنی ضرورت ہے کہ اگر وہ لڑتا بھی رہے تو بھی اس کی موجودگی ہی کافی ہے۔ دوسرے شعر میں شاعر ایک ایسے شخص کی تصویر بناتا ہے جو تنہائی میں کچھ اور ہے اور لوگوں کے درمیان کچھ اور نظر آتا ہے، جس سے معاشرے کے دوہرے معیار، سیاست یا انسانی رویّوں کی مختلف تعبیریں نکل سکتی ہیں۔ آخری تین اشعار میں محسوس ہوتا ہے کہ شاعر شاید اپنی ہی بات کر رہا ہے۔ وہ محبوب کو اپنے ساتھ بیٹھنے سے منع کرتا ہے کیونکہ اس کی اپنی عزت اور شرافت مشکوک ہو چکی ہے، یا لوگ اس پر کسی الزام کی وجہ سے انگلیاں اٹھا رہے ہیں۔ آخری شعر میں بھی الزام کی حقیقت نہیں بتائی جاتی، صرف یہ کہا جاتا ہے کہ اگر وہ اس صورتحال سے بچ نکلے تو یہ اس کی قسمت ہوگی۔ پوری غزل کا حسن یہی ہے کہ شاعر پس منظر کبھی واضح نہیں کرتا، بلکہ چند اشارے دے کر باقی کہانی قاری کی سوچ اور تخیل کے سپرد کر دیتا ہے۔
This ghazal is a beautiful example of dark poetry, where the poet hides the real story behind ordinary words and leaves the meaning open to the reader's imagination.
In the first couplet, the speaker feels so lonely that even an arguing companion is better than complete silencelove is shown as the need for someone's presence rather than perfect harmony. The second couplet suggests that the same person appears one way in private and another in the eyes of the public, hinting at double standards, politics, or the contrast between a person's true self and their public image.
The final three couplets feel deeply personal, as if the poet is speaking about himself. He asks the beloved not to sit with him because his own honor and reputation have become questionable, and people seem to be accusing him of something. Yet the poem never reveals what the accusation is. It simply suggests that escaping it would be a matter of luck. This hidden background is what gives the ghazal its dark atmosphere the poet provides only fragments, leaving the reader to imagine the untold story behind them.
